Spay and neuter your pets, people. SPAY AND NEUTER.

Take care of your own, then you won't inadvertently be the cause of big messes that fall to other people to clean up.

my tortoise is not spayed but I don't think that's going to be a problem.

Ha, you made me laugh, in a moment when I needed to laugh.

You're right, we can make an exception for tortoises. ;D

I've been reading your past couple of entries with my heart in my throat. Brightest blessings on you for taking care of the wee ones. Anything I can do to help? I know I'm far away and all. ;___:

Say a prayer to the saint of lost kittens, I suppose.

We've got all the stuff we need, heck, we've got a whole cat rescue organization behind us, complete with cat vet...but there's only so much that can be done.

(I got the magazine, btw. THANKS! I looked through it only briefly, but I think there are a number of things I'm going to want to make, on the other side of this.)

You - and they - shall be in my thoughts. I would volunteer Phoebe's thoughts, but they seem to be focused on evicting me from my cushion in front of the computer.

Hang in there. ♥

Enjoy the magazine! Rowan = knitterPr0n

mine was spayed twice, unfortunately.

I saw on the sign for a local vet "Spay and neuter your friends". There are a few people I know who I'd like to have neutered/spayed, then again I guess I wouldn't really call them "friends"

Hear, hear. I once got into an argument with a man on the street who was trying to sell kittens out of a cardboard box for $10 each. I asked him where the kittens' mother was, and asked whether he was planning on getting her spayed. He said she was at home, and that he wouldn't spay her because she was meant to be "giving life." I almost went on a rampage (but restrained myself) that he was causing the *deaths* of millions of homeless animals in shelters. ARGH!

I want to make people like that work in a city pound or ASPCA, in the euthanasia room, for a week. Ignorance kills...unfortunately, not always the ignorant one themselves.

If people were more responsible they wouldn't have to speuter their pets. =/

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I don't think even the most responsible owner can always prevent a horny cat from getting out and getting laid. I suspect that's how this momcat ended up on the street, since she was not feral.

I'd say that by *definition* responsibility means spaying and neutering your cats and dogs, unless you have some incredibly perfect specimen of some rare breed and a plan for what to do with all the offspring, even the ones who don't turn out perfect.

I'm tired tired tired of cleaning up these messes.

Responsible breeders manage alright; responsible owners could, as well. (Though frankly I cannot imagine anyone in their right mind wanting to keep intact cats. They drive me batty.)

I think one part of being responsible is preventing unwanted pregnancies/breeding, whether that's through speutering or careful management.

You're not the only one.
