A poem I copied into my journal 8 years ago this week which still seems appropriate now (or appropriate again?).

Dive for dreams
or a slogan may topple you
(trees are their roots
and wind is wind)

trust your heart
if the seas catch fire
(and live by love
though the stars walk backward)

honour the past
but welcome the future
(and dance your death
away at this wedding)

never mind a world
with its villains or heroes
(for god likes girls
and tomorrow and the earth)

thank you, my daphne girl. i think i remember when you had that poem on your mind ... but are dreams down below? we're told always to reach for them... dreams are like stars. perhaps dreams are really starfish?

i miss you.

You know, I was thinking of that very thing when I read this last night.
I think he means dreams are like roots, down below making everything else stronger. Lives based on roots, growing down. Which I like, because if you reach for your dreams, you might get knocked over. So diving is preferable.

You know what else? Eight years ago, in the same week (in the same journal) I used to speak French so well that when I made a mistake at the dinner table, everyone put down their forks and turned to look at me in surprise.

I miss Paris.
